Description
Although Jim & Jesse had recorded earlier for the Kentucky label (as The Virginia Trio), they really first made their mark in country music with these early Bluegrass efforts for the Capitol label. They recorded 20 songs in 5 sessions between 1952 and 1955, all of it quality material that featured the McReynolds’ superb duet singing and Jesse’s unique cross-picked mandolin on great cuts like TOO MANY TEARS, A MEMORY OF YOU, IS IT TRUE, MY LITTLE HONEYSUCKLE ROSE and I’LL WASH YOUR LOVE FROM YOUR HEART. In these excellent Ken Nelson-produced sessions, Jim & Jesse were joined by Curly Seckler, Tommy Jackson, Hoke Jenkins (banjo) and Sonny James (fiddle). This fine package—which features a discography—also includes 4 fine songs that never had been issued on 78rpm or 45rpm singles. This is some of Jim & Jesse’s finest work and a fine example of one of the greatest Bluegrass/Brother duets in all of music history.
