A note from Marty Martel on the Pick Inn...
Hi Everybody, Saturday-July 11, 2009-330PM I drove up to Jesse & Joy McReynolds Pick Inn to wish Jesse a Happy Birthday. He is 80 years young, and I can attest to that. He looks great, he is sounding great and he is playing as awesome as ever. He is a guiding hand in Bluegrass Music and I only wish that they would embrace him more, because he is truly one helluva human being and as far as Marty Martel is concerned, he is the leader in bluegrass. HE IS A LEGEND, A REAL LEGEND, A TRUE LEGEND, A LIVING LEGEND, DESTINED TO TAKE HIS PLACE BESIDE MR. MONROE AND FLATT & SCRUGGS. THERE IS NO DOUBT IN MY MIND. Now let me talk about Pickin Inn. What a beautiful place to come to. As I drove up the hill, I entered a world of music, lots of beautiful people, good food, great comraderie, and bluegrass music beyond your wildest dreams and Jesse McReynolds was on stage as much as he was off stage. There were 92 year players, singers, young 9/10 year olds playing the music they love. Jesse had time for everyone and always a smile on his face. Jesse and Joy have made a replica of one of the most historic music parks in the world, Sunset Park in West Grove, PA. Sunset Park is now closed because the owners felt that because of their age and park needing so much work, it was time to put it in the history books. Well, my friends you can get the feeling that we all have had in years past when we all played Sunset Park for Lawrence and Hazel Waltman and his Dad. History is being reincarnated right here in Middle Tennessee just a short, short drive from Gallatin, TN. I hope in the coming season that Jesse and Joy will bring some of our legendary artists to the top of the hill to entertain the folks. What you cannot see at the Grand Ole Opry, you will see at Pick Inn, and you will hear real pure traditional bluegrass music and country music, and you will have stepped into one of the most beautiful places that I have been fortunate enough to be able to enjoy my short stay because of a busy day. Even had a great visit with one of my dearest friends from VA., Jim Sartain. Jim got me booked at the Blue Goose in Deltaville, VA during the later part of my career and we worked there several times and Jim and I became great friends and it was good to see him. It is a place where Joy has weddings, receptions, corporate meetings, special events, and whatever is needed for your meeting. If there is a more beautiful place than this, I have not seen it yet. There is a great story about the house that is built to hold these functions, but you can find that out when you make your plans to come to Nashville, To really get a great feel for this wonderful place go to the following website and enjoy: http://JimandJesse.com You will not regret spending time there. I left Pick Inn at approximately 445PM and drove home to refresh. I left around 7PM and headed to Douglas Corner to a showcase of two songwriters who are legendary... (Jesse & Joy thank Marty for all these wonderful comments. To be compared to Sunset Park is the best compliment we could ever hope to get.)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ JESSE McREYNOLDS is known world-wide as a bluegrass legend and master of the mandolin. With a string of hits as half of the legendary Jim & Jesse, Jesse’s work includes the classics “Diesel on My Tail,” “Are You Missing Me,” and “Dixie Hoedown.” Jesse’s powerful mandolin playing has also left its mark on American popular culture, most notably through the Jim & Jesse album Berry Pickin’ in the Country and his work on The Doors’ Soft Parade album. He is currently working on a tribute to Jerry Garcia and Robert Hunter of The Grateful Dead.  Jesse made this sign out of an old barn door and some cedar.
Just follow it to the Pick Inn. When you drive in on our barn driveway, this is the original Hartsville Pike.
The Pick Inn log cabin and former home of the late Keith McReynolds, Jesse's oldest son who passed in 2000. This concert is a tribute to him and all Virginia Boys and, of course, the late Jim McReynolds who passed away in 2002.
At nearly 80 years young, Jesse readies to sign the concrete in the new pavilion spring of 2008. He remarked with a chuckle, "Maybe if I build it, they will come!"
 So he built it for all to enjoy, whether it's music festivals, weddings, etc. And we weren't disappointed. Even though we held our event on the same weekend as Uncle Dave Macon Days, they came and proved he was right! Next year we'll pick a better date so folks won't have to miss either event.
Hope to see you in the future at the Pick Inn!
